We were tasked with providing a gym flooring solution for Bellway Homes residential developments. This was to be rolled out across various London sites. The budget we had to work with was approximately £10k per site and the timescale required was 1 week per site.
The key criteria requested required low maintenance and robust flooring solution that would offer users a safe surface to workout on. We also had to offer a consistent look and feel because the flooring specification would be rolled out across upcoming sites.
We had to deal with variables such as new concrete slabs, high moisture contents, potential acoustic issues and building site conditions. All very challenging but we set about devising a flooring specification.
Bellway’s chosen gym equipment supplier is Technogym so we had the task of offering a flooring solution that would complement the diverse range of machines and fit in with Technogym’s aesthetics.
Once we had researched and tested an extensive range of flooring solutions, the chosen products were Gerflor’s Creation 70 Clic vinyl plank and Pliteq’s GenieMat FIT30 rubber tile. Creation 70 offered low maintenance and resilient floor finish for the traffic areas and CV zones, whereas the GenieMat FIT30 offered a high-performance rubber acoustic tile. Both suppliers are market leaders in their respective fields and Bellway was happy with the ‘best in class’ flooring specification.
We have so far completed a number of gym flooring installations for Bellway Homes with many more in the pipeline. Although each project has thrown up its own challenges, the end result has been a consistent, safe and high-performance gym floor perfectly suited to an unmanned facility.
